Accounting and Auditing Services for Governments
We serve primarily as auditors for a variety of local governments. We are also equipped to advise local government entities regarding accounting matters, and to provide assistance to government finance departments in their preparation for annual audits. Many of our local government clients issue a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) and have been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association.
Our governmental experience includes:
- Appraisal districts
- Water and utility districts
Special accounting and auditing standards apply to governments, primarily because governmental units differ from businesses in their motives, objectives, structure and operations. Governments render services to citizens and have legal authority to raise revenues necessary to fund those services. The decision to pay for government services is generally not up to the individual citizen, and this involuntary funding relationship has influenced the development of highly specialized accounting and auditing standards for governments. Expertise and experience in this arena is a critical consideration for governments looking to engage accountants and auditors.
